After a short summer break the collaborative research activities in COMP-ECO had been resumed. During September, fourteen Polish researchers, representing WUT and AFIT, visited TU Dresden for 1 to 2 weeks, and performed activities under the joint exploratory research.
During the visit to TU Dresdens' Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK), the CFRP and GFRP laminates were manufactured using an open-mold press. Efforts were made to integrate PZT sensors and conductive fibers into the structure of the laminates. In addition, in the case of CFRP, attempts were made to introduce veils as an insulating layer to separate the conductive fibers and PZT sensors from the carbon fibers.
During the laboratory activities and lab tours the Polish researchers had an opportunity to learn new techniques, tools, and methods and discover the projects implemented by the host institution. The group meetings allowed to discuss further steps in collaborative research, define the aspects of the joint long-term cooperation strategy, and plan preparation of join research publications and development of joint proposals for EU funding.
